Dee Dee's time at Elmhurst Ballet School served her well. On the 8th December 1966, she co-founded the dance group Pan's People. The group initially consisted of Flick Colby,Babs Lord and Dee Dee and later joined by Ruth Pearson, Louise Clarke and Andy Rutherford. As the line up changed during the '70's, the group were joined by Cherry Gillespie and Sue Menhenick.
'Pan's' proved to be an overnight sensation, appearing on the BBC show 'Top of the Pops' many hundreds of times between 1966 and 1976.
Their weekly appearance on prime time national television made Pan's People a household name and millions of people would tune in on a weekly basis to see the girls dance to the latest hits of the time.
As the years progressed, so the costumes and dance routines became more risque and raunchy, earning the group an unshakeable reputation for quality and inventiveness.
Dee Dee's happiest memories include appearing on Top of the Pops with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder as well as having her hand kissed by the legendary Jimi Hendrix. She also appeared in a yellow submarine with Beatle, Ringo Starr.
"People almost saw us as the girls-next-door getting up to dance. A mixture of innocence, youth, freshness, and doing something that nobody had ever done before, along with very raunchy routines, made us the hit that we were."
